The most common pitch issue is falling flat, which is why we’re starting with this video on flatness. When we use the word flat with regard to intonation, we mean under or lower than the desired pitch.
I’m going to outline four factors that can contribute to flatness with tips to counteract them, and we’ll end this video with two exercises for you to practice staying on top of the pitch.
The four main reasons singers fall flat include: repeated notes, descending lines, singing high within a register, weak breath support, and inadequate space in the mouth and face. Let’s delve a little deeper into each one.
